Ms. Lesley Gent

Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Ms. Gent moved to South Florida in 2007 in order to reunite with her two sisters and check out the Florida Arts & Culture scene. She accepted her first public teaching position here at Beach High in September 2012, and is thrilled to be sharing her passion, skills, and knowledge via the Vocal Music and Keyboard programs.

In addition to leading two choral groups at Beach High, Ms. Gent currently teaches five sections each of Keyboard (Levels 1 through 4H), and one section of Vocal Techniques for serious solo singers. In 2014, she created Beach High's first-ever contemporary show choir, HARD CHORUS.

Ms. Gent brings with her extensive and diverse experience across several industries, including classical/theatrical music performance and coaching, instruction and advisement in higher education, and business management. Ms. Gent has performed leading roles in local and professional theater (see Repertoire List), winning several awards, including the YACTA Award for her portryal of Eva Peron in Evita (2004), and First Place in Adult Musical Theater for the 2003 NATS Competition at Carnegie Mellon University. She performed as a soloist with the Aspen Music Festival in 1998.

Ms. Gent's educational philosophy focuses on the merging of creative inspiration and proper artistic discipline, noting that both are critical for the advancement of any student of music. Furthermore, she firmly believes that EVERY student holds within himself/herself unlimited potential, and that it is her (happy) job to "mine that gold" and to bring it out into the world in order to be seen, heard and celebrated.
