    Miami Beach Senior High School  

     

    Purpose

    The Secondary Foreign Language Program provides students with the opportunity to continue a sequence the chosen foreign language:  French FL. Level 2. Emphasizes listening comprehension; oral communication skills; while introducing reading and writing sequentially. This program strives for functional use of the language while realizing three main objectives:

    • the development of communication and learning skills,
    • the development of cultural awareness, and
    • the extension of future academic/career opportunities.

    The student will develop communicative skills and cross-cultural understanding. Specific content includes, but is not limited to, skills in listening and speaking with special attention to pronunciation. A reading and writing component is also included as well as the fundamentals of grammar and culture.  This is accomplished through the use of authentic media music, movies, plays, etc…) and literature and active student participation in the learning process.

    Objectives/  The Year at a glance:

     

    The National Standards for Foreign Language Learning, Sunshine State Standards, and the CBC for French FL. Level 2 will guide this course and will address the following performance outcomes.  The essential objective is for students to learn the target language and connect to other people’s perspectives, patterns of behavior, and contributions to the world at large.

     

    Students will:

    1. Understand Oral Communication
    2. Interact in the target language
    3. Understand written passages
    4. Present in the target language
    5. Understand culture
    6. Understand history
    7. Use of French in various settings
    8. Follow oral and written direction that result in the successful completion of a give task.
    9. Discuss movies, plays and museums, cultural events, food and relate actions.

    The course uses primarily the following textbook, Workbook, movies, documentaries and Audio Edition :     

    Glencoe French: Bon Voyage, Schmitt, Brillie Lutz; Florida Edition.  Publisher: Glencoe / McGraw Hill

     

    This course adheres to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Grading Scale.
