      Work in class: Journal #5: Distribute lyrics for “Dust Bowl Dance” by Mumford and Sons and “The Boxer” by Simon and Garfunkel; “Asleep” by The Smiths (see handouts). Have students read the lyrics and then play the songs aloud for them. Have students share their initial reactions to the songs.

 

 

Groups of four to analyze the songs, specifically how they may relate to the theme of Coming of Age. Distribute handout (see below) with guiding questions and tell them to take notes as we will discuss as a class tomorrow.
